Justice énergétique au Sénégal : dialogue inclusif avec les élève-ingénieurs de l’ESEA

Dakar, August 2025 — Facing the growing challenges of climate change and inequalities in access to energy, Action for Environmental Justice (AJE), in partnership with ESEA’s Green Club, organised a short-film screening session followed by a panel discussion. The goal: to raise student engineers’ awareness of energy-justice issues and foster an inclusive dialogue on a sustainable energy transition.

In a context where Senegal experiences marked disparities in access to energy, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas, this initiative aimed to raise students’ awareness of energy injustice, present concrete cases through documentary films, and encourage intergenerational dialogue and student initiatives around sustainable energy.

How the activity unfolded

After a welcome address by the president of ESEA’s Green Club, the screening of the short film “L’Espoir Échoué – Attention pétrole” by the ARCOTS group of Bargny told the story of a young fisherman who, drawn by the gains of oil exploitation, abandons his family boat only to face an uncertain future.

The discussions highlighted the collective responsibility for protecting the environment, the renewable alternatives available to Senegal (sun, wind, biomass), energy and food sovereignty, and the need for suitable public policies for an equitable distribution of resources.

AJE — Together, let’s build a fair, sustainable energy future accessible to all.
