About

Our history

AJE was brought to life in 2017.

The creation of AJE stems from a general observation: environmental concerns receive little attention from the Senegalese courts. While Senegal’s associative fabric features a wide range of environmental organisations, very few focus on bringing these matters before the courts.

A national footprint

Member of leading networks

In under 5 years, the organisation has secured its footprint at both community and national level. It is a member of several networks, including the “Publish What You Pay” coalition and the Vigilance network. It holds the civil-society mandate within the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) of the EITI and within other international organisations.

The organisation is committed to numerous causes, the most accomplished of which is the defence of the coastline, notably the filao belt.
